Stephen was born in Kansas City, Missouri, USA and like many writers when they started out, he worked as a journalist. However, unlike the majority of his contemporaries, he won the Pulitzer Price. (The only other writer on this site to have won the Pulitzer is John Sandford, who won it in 1986. Stephen was awarded it in 2003.)
