Rob Sinclair Biography

Rob was born in the North East of England, the exact location is unknown, but it is probably either Newcastle or Sunderland. Little of his childhood or early family life is known either, but it seems he moved around quite a lot when growing up. To date, he’s lived in those two cities as well as Durham, Hull, Norwich, Birmingham, and Nottingham.

One thing that is known about Rob’s early years is that he loved reading. When a very small child, he loved the Mr Men books by English author Roger Hargreaves and as he grew, he became a big Terry Pratchett fan. Rob loved the Discworld books which he discovered when he was around 12 years old and continued reading well into his late teens.

We first catch up with Rob in that last city: Nottingham. There, Rob attended the University of Nottingham and studied Biochemistry. This is a large university with a student population of around 45,000, with the main campus set in the city, which itself is quite large by UK standards, having a population of around 330,000.

Upon graduating in biochemistry in 2002, however, Rob didn’t go into a science-based profession, but did something of a complete about-turn. On the advice of his mother, he went a far different and highly unexpected route – into the world of finance and took up accountancy.

Rob was fortunate to secure a job with Ernst and Young, one of the biggest accounting firms in the world, which has offices all around the globe. To begin with at least, Rob didn’t travel far, but took up a position in the company’s Birmingham office, around 45 miles from Nottingham. But once he’d qualified as a Chartered Accountant, his days of languishing behind a desk in Birmingham were to be numbered. Rob didn’t know it, but the world was about to open up for him in a big way.
