The date of Linda Castillo’s birth is unknown. So is the month. Even the year is a mystery.
Like her birthday, little is known about Linda’s family and early life. One thing that is known is she has one sister. The family lived in Arcanum, Ohio, which is a tiny place with barely 2,000 people, around 99% of whom are white. However, less than 200 miles away is a large population of Amish (around 36,000). As a young girl, Linda used to see Amish people on the bus but didn’t take much notice of them because she didn’t find them or their culture interesting. (You might have come across the Amish in the Harrison Ford film Witness, but if not, they are Christian people who lead very simple lives, which involves plain living and often turning their backs on modern technology.)
When she was nine years old, Linda’s family lived on a small farm in Ithaca, Ohio, a place even smaller than Arcanum – its population didn’t even stretch into three figures when Linda lived there! For a while, they had a pet pig called Pinky, but they also kept a number of other animals, including chickens, cows, sheep, and goats.
