Lee Child Biography

Lee Child was born on the 29th of October in 1954, which was a Friday. For readers interested in all things astrological, that means he’s a Scorpio, which is a Water sign.

Strangely, while Lee Child is known to millions upon millions of people around the globe, many of whom have never even read one of this books, he wasn’t the offspring of Mr. Child and Mrs. Child. No, that job came down to Mr. Grant and Mrs. Grant who then went the traditional route of naming their son after themselves, prefixing it with the name James. Hence, James Grant was born. (The name Lee Child is reported to have come about through a running joke concerning his mispronunciation of Le Car, a vehicle manufactured by French company Renault. He insisted on saying ‘Lee’ as opposed to ‘Le’. The word “lee” was then jokingly used to prefix all manner of things, including his daughter – “lee child”.)

Lee is one of four children, all boys. He is the second oldest. His oldest brother worked as an engineer, the second youngest was a chemistry teacher, and the youngest is actually a writer too. Lee’s father fought in World War II. Nothing is known about his mother.

Lee was born in a town called Coventry, which is about 100 miles north of London in the middle of England and has a population of around 350,000 people. However, he was raised in Handsworth Wood in Birmingham because…

Lee Child Interview

Author of the Jack Reacher books, Lee answers fan questions such as what he intends doing with the Reacher character and where he wants to take the Reacher series in the future. He also talks about the character of Reacher himself and choosing locations he uses in his books… and much more.

Why Read the Lee Child Jack Reacher Books in Order?

Born in the Midlands - an area in the middle of England, hence the name - author Lee Child, the creator of the Jack Reacher character, needs little introduction. Lee has delighted fans for decades from the very first Jack Reacher book - Killing Floor. So much so that one of the biggest Hollywood stars ever has played Reacher in a number of blockbuster films - Tom Cruise (though the staunchest of Reacher fans are far from pleased about that, mainly due to a significant discrepancy in the height of the hero compared to the actual height of the actor playing him).

This Lee Child book list gives all the Lee Child books in chronological order, so lets you see the characters develop and witness events at the correct time, just as Lee intended (including the Jack Reacher short stories).

So, if you've ever hunted for the Lee Child book order, hoping to find details on the Jack Reacher book series, in particular to get the Jack Reacher novels in order, your hunt is over!
