Lee Child was born on the 29th of October in 1954, which was a Friday. For readers interested in all things astrological, that means he’s a Scorpio, which is a Water sign.
Strangely, while Lee Child is known to millions upon millions of people around the globe, many of whom have never even read one of this books, he wasn’t the offspring of Mr. Child and Mrs. Child. No, that job came down to Mr. Grant and Mrs. Grant who then went the traditional route of naming their son after themselves, prefixing it with the name James. Hence, James Grant was born. (The name Lee Child is reported to have come about through a running joke concerning his mispronunciation of Le Car, a vehicle manufactured by French company Renault. He insisted on saying ‘Lee’ as opposed to ‘Le’. The word “lee” was then jokingly used to prefix all manner of things, including his daughter – “lee child”.)
Lee is one of four children, all boys. He is the second oldest. His oldest brother worked as an engineer, the second youngest was a chemistry teacher, and the youngest is actually a writer too. Lee’s father fought in World War II. Nothing is known about his mother.
