Stuart Woods was born on the 9th of January in 1938, which was a Sunday. For those readers interested in all things astrological, that means he is a Capricorn, which is one of the Earth signs.
Stuart was born in the small town of Manchester, population of around 4,000 people, in Georgia, which is a state in the South of the United States of America. (Looking at a map, Florida is the 'dangly bit' [excuse the use of cartographers' terminology] on the bottom right and Georgia is the directly above in the main part of the country.) Stuart's mother was a church organist, while his ex-convict father was only around for the first couple of years of Stuart's life. Fortunately, his mother was supportive and nurturing - she actually taught him to read a year before he started school.
Not much is known about Stuart's early life, save that he attended local schools in Manchester. One thing that is known is that he dearly wanted to be a writer. This he proved by trying to pen his first novel when he was just nine years old. However, he soon gave up because it was too difficult.
