Peter James Biography
Peter James was born on the 22nd of August in 1948, which was a Sunday. For those readers interested in all things astrological, that makes him a Leo, which is one of the Fire signs.
James was born in Brighton, a city with a population of around 290,000 people and is on the coast in the South of England. While not born with a silver spoon in his mouth, James was born into a family that brushed with royalty. It turns out that his mother Cornelia made gloves for the Queen and you can’t make bespoke gloves without meeting the person to measure their hands. His father, on the other hand, had a much more down to earth profession – he was a chartered accountant. James is one of two children. (Today, his sister carries on the family business of making gloves for the royal family.)
James was educated at Charterhouse, which is a very posh, very exclusive, and very expensive public school (it costs around £37,000, or $50,000, per year to board a child there). All that money and all that teaching talent was somewhat wasted on James, however, as he freely admits he failed his mathematics O-level exam and got three grade Es at A-Level (E is the lowest pass grade). After such a dismal start to life, he was all set to be one of life’s great losers, wasn’t he? Oh, hang on. No, obviously he wasn’t. So what happened?
